About Asprovalta

Why Asprovalta?

Asprovalta is a lively resort on the Strymon gulf of the Aegean, 90 km east of Thessaloniki and 60 km west of Kavala. Larger than Stavros or Vrasna, it has more developed tourist infrastructure - restaurants, bars, supermarkets, one of the longest organised beaches in northern Greece. An Asprovalta holiday in 2026 is a traditional choice for Balkan families thanks to affordable prices, a good beach and a short drive from the Balkans.

The character is family-oriented and accessible. Asprovalta has around 3,000 permanent residents and triples in summer. The centre is walkable, with markets, restaurants and bars along the seafront promenade. It differs from Halkidiki in lower prices and a simpler atmosphere.

The position is excellent for travellers who want a "combination of mainland destinations": 90 minutes to Thessaloniki (culture), 90 minutes to Kavala (Thassos), 45 minutes to Stavros, 60 minutes to Halkidiki.

Beaches and the sea

The main Asprovalta beach is sandy, about 3 km long, with wooden jetties and typical sand dunes. The water is calm with shallow entry, quality is good. Blue Flag on the central section.

Beaches nearby:

  • Vrasna (5 km east) - a similar beach, quieter
  • Nea Vrasna (8 km east) - a smaller beach, more authentic fishing-resort feel
  • Stavros (15 km east) - sandy beaches with jetties, quiet

The Strymon gulf water is clean and slightly cooler than Halkidiki (open to the north).

Where to stay
