About Kariotes

Why Kariotes?

Kariotes is a small village on the eastern coast of Lefkada, about 3 km south of the island's main town and 2 km north of Ligia. A quiet place with a short beach and access to Lefkada's attractions. A Kariotes holiday in 2026 is for travellers who want Lefkada economically, without the busy tourist centres of Nidri or Vasiliki.

The character is traditionally island. Kariotes has around 400 permanent residents, a small harbour for fishing boats and yachts, two main waterfront tavernas. No nightlife or animation.

Beaches and the sea

The Kariotes beach is a mix of sand and pebbles, about 800 m long. The water is turquoise and calm because the east of the island is sheltered. The beach is partly organised.

Beaches nearby:

  • Ligia (2 km south) - similar
  • Nikiana (5 km south) - sandy
  • Porto Katsiki (25 km west) - Lefkada's most famous beach

Where to stay

Kariotes centre along the harbour - family apartments, villas with bay views.

Is Lefkada expensive? More expensive than mainland Epirus, but cheaper than Mykonos or Santorini.
