Keramoti is a seaside town in the Kavala region, at the mouth of the Nestos river, about 35 km south-east of the city of Kavala. It is the closest point of the mainland to Thassos: the ferry from Keramoti to Limenas, the island's main town, takes about 35 minutes, with frequent departures throughout the day in season.
The town is small and quiet, with a harbour, tavernas known for fresh fish, shops and the everyday basics. People choose it for the long sandy beach with a shallow entry and for its location: Kavala "Megas Alexandros" airport is about 9 km from the port, which makes Keramoti a practical base both for a mainland holiday and for trips to Thassos.
Beaches and the sea
Keramoti beach - a long beach of fine sand with long shallows, well suited to families with small children. The beach holds a Blue Flag.
For different beaches the easiest option is to cross to Thassos, where sandy and marble beaches are half an hour away by ferry.
Nature: the Nestos delta
Keramoti lies in the Nestos delta, a protected wetland with lagoons, riverside forest and rich birdlife. The surroundings are flat, good for walks and cycling.
Where to stay
Town centre by the port - apartments and small hotels within walking distance of the ferry, tavernas and shops. A good choice if you plan trips to Thassos without a car.
Along the beach - apartments along the shore, quieter and closer to the sea.
