About Alonissos

Why Alonissos?

Alonissos is the smallest of the three main Sporadic islands, focused on eco-tourism and natural conservation. The Alonissos National Marine Park covers surrounding waters with monk seals (Mediterranean) and crystal water. An Alonissos holiday in 2026 is for travellers who want authentic Greece without the crowds.

The character is quiet and nature-oriented. Alonissos has around 2,700 permanent residents, with the main town of Patitiri in the southeast. The old town (Chora) on the hilltop has been restored in traditional stone architecture after the 1965 earthquake.

Position: 5 km from Skopelos, 35 km from Skiathos, 60 km from Volos.

Beaches and the sea

Alonissos beaches are mostly pebble, with crystal water (among the cleanest in the Aegean thanks to park protection).

Top beaches:

  • Chrissi Milia - a sandy beach with pines
  • Kokkinokastro - red beach (red pebbles), unusual
  • Lefto Gialos - pebble with turquoise water
  • Steni Vala - a fishing village with a small beach
  • Megalos Mourtias - a wild beach

The water is exceptionally clean and clear, ideal for snorkelling.
