About Fanari
Why Fanari?
Fanari is a small resort in Thrace, northeastern Greece, about 70 km east of Komotini and 250 km from Thessaloniki. Little known to Balkan tourists, with a long sandy beach and the atmosphere of completely undeveloped tourism. A Fanari holiday in 2026 is for travellers who want complete isolation and an authentic Greek coast without international tourism presence.
The character is rural and local. Fanari has around 500 residents, a fishing harbour, one main street with a couple of tavernas. In summer it mostly attracts Greek tourists from Thrace and Athens. It differs from popular northern destinations (Halkidiki, Olympic Riviera) in significantly lower tourist density.
Beaches and the sea
The main Fanari beach is sandy, about 4 km long, with pines and tamarisks behind. The water is clean and calm, with shallow entry. Blue Flag on sections.

Fanari is 250 km east of Thessaloniki:

Pricing - what to expect
Accommodation: a four-person apartment is 30 to 65 € per night in shoulder, 45 to 90 € at peak. The most affordable in northern Greece.
Weekly cost per person: 200 to 340 € shoulder, 320 to 500 € peak.
Restaurant prices: main course 6 to 10 €, fresh fish 11 to 16 €, glass of wine 2 to 4 €.
Frequently asked questions
Are there Serbian tourists? Very few. Fanari is a preference of Greek travellers from Thrace and Athens.
Is it worth travelling that far? For travellers who want a completely authentic, non-touristic Greek coast - yes. For a standard holiday - the Olympic Riviera is closer.
Is renting a car worth it? Absolutely. Thrace is a large region; a car unlocks every discovery.
