Why Mykonos?
Mykonos is the glamorous Cycladic island, known for its brand of nightlife, windmills and status-symbol status among European and American jet-set crowds. A Mykonos holiday in 2026 is for travellers who want a combination of Cycladic architecture (white stone houses, blue domes) with world-famous beach clubs and exclusive restaurants.
The character is premium and entertainment-focused. Mykonos has around 11,000 permanent residents, but in summer (July–August) the population exceeds 100,000. The town of Mykonos (Chora) has a pedestrian zone with white lanes and fishing boats on the shore; the Kato Mili windmills are the island's symbol. It differs from other Cyclades in price levels and the focus on luxury nightlife.

Mykonos has 25+ beaches, split into "party" and "quiet":
Paradise and Super Paradise - the most famous party beaches, with music from the afternoon into late evening. High sun bed prices (40 to 80 € for a pair).
Platis Gialos - a family sandy beach, organised but without party atmosphere.
Elia beach - the island's longest sandy beach, with different sections (organised and free).
Agios Sostis and Fokos - wild, less organised beaches for those who want quiet.
Ornos - a family beach near Mykonos town, with waterfront restaurants.
The Aegean water is turquoise with excellent visibility. Blue Flag on most beaches.

Best time to visit
May–June - cool, sea 19–22 °C. Low crowds, lower prices.
July–August - peak. Sea 23–25 °C, land 28–32 °C. Beaches full, nightlife in full mode. Maximum prices.
September - excellent for those who want the Mykonos atmosphere with fewer crowds. Prices drop 25 percent.

Old town (Chora) walk - narrow white lanes, small gallery spaces, restaurants with views.
Kato Mili windmills - the island's symbol, prettiest at sunset.
Little Venice (Alefkandra) - an area of the town with houses on the water, cafés with views.
Boat to Delos - UNESCO archaeological island, an ancient religious centre. 30 minutes by boat, full-day trip (25 to 40 € per person).
Beach club crawl - Paradise → Super Paradise → Elia, with boat or taxi transfers.

Pricing - what to expect
Accommodation: hotel in Chora 250 to 600 € per night. Apartment in Ornos 100 to 250 € shoulder, 150 to 400 € peak. Villa 300 to 1,000 € per night.
Weekly cost per person: 800 to 1,500 € shoulder, 1,200 to 2,500 € peak. Mykonos is the second most expensive Greek island after Santorini.
Restaurant prices: main course 18 to 35 € in the centre, 12 to 22 € in smaller villages. Fresh fish 30 to 60 €. Cocktail 12 to 18 €.
Sun bed on a popular beach: 40 to 100 € for a pair.
Frequently asked questions
Is Mykonos excessive in prices? Yes, especially at peak. Prices can be 3 to 5 times higher than on other Greek islands.
Is Mykonos for families? Less recommended. Nightlife dominates the atmosphere; beaches are largely party-oriented.
What is the difference between Mykonos and Santorini? Mykonos is party-oriented with beach clubs and nightlife. Santorini is more romantic, focused on sunsets and wine. Mykonos for entertainment; Santorini for romance.
Is renting a car worth it? A car is problematic at peak (congested narrow roads). A scooter or ATV is the more popular option. Local buses cover the main beaches.
Is Delos worth visiting? Absolutely for those who love history. One of Greece's most important archaeological sites, with temples, statues and mosaics.
