About Ios
Why Ios?
Ios is a smaller Cycladic island, traditionally known as a destination for young people - with a developed party scene and nightlife in Chora (the main town). An Ios holiday in 2026 is for travellers in their twenties who want a combination of sandy beaches and lively nightlife.
The character is dual: sandy beaches by day, party by night. Ios has around 2,000 permanent residents, but at peak it hosts 20+ times that. It differs from Mykonos in lower prices and a younger crowd (mostly 18 to 30).
Position: in the Cyclades, 175 km southeast of Athens, near Santorini (1 hour by boat).
Beaches and the sea
Mylopotas beach - the island's main sandy beach, 1.5 km long, with pines behind. Water sports.
Manganari beach (south) - sandy, quieter, family-friendly.
Yialos beach - town beach in Chora, sandy.
Maganari - remote, wild.
The Aegean water is turquoise and calm.
Where to stay
