About Mitikas

Why Mitikas?

Mitikas is a fishing village on the Ionian coast of Aetolia-Acarnania, south of Vonitsa and northwest of Lefkada. A quiet place with a sandy beach and boat access to the Inouses islands of Kalamos and Kastos. A Mitikas holiday in 2026 is for travellers who want an authentic coast without tourist development.

The character is traditionally fishing. Mitikas has around 1,000 residents, a small harbour with fishing boats, a few tavernas and a mini-market. No nightclubs or animation programmes. It differs from the popular Lefkada centres in significantly lower tourist density.

Position is strategic: 80 km south of Preveza, 30 km northwest of the Lefkada bridge, with access to the Inouses islands and the whole Acarnania region.

Beaches and the sea

The main Mitikas beach is a mix of sand and larger pebbles, with pines behind. The water is turquoise and calm because the bay is sheltered by the Inouses islands. The beach is partly organised - a few tavernas with sun beds.

Beaches nearby:

  • Kalamitsi beach (5 km north) - sandy, less organised
  • Kalamos island beaches (30-minute boat ride) - wild, sandy, rarely visited
  • Mitikas Beach (1 km east of the centre) - a longer shore

Where to stay

Mitikas centre along the harbour - family apartments in two-storey houses, one guesthouse.

Hills above the village - stone houses with views of the bay and the Inouses islands.
